Icelandair announces March 2012 operational results

Iceland’s flag carrier Icelandair recently announced the operational results for March 2012 and sounded upbeat at the outcome.

The airline in a statement said that Icelandair flights carried 31 percent more tourists to Iceland this March as compared to the same month in 2011.

Providing further details, Icelandair revealed that it carried nearly 119,000 passengers in March 2012, up 23 percent when compared to March last year. The airline’s capacity also increased by 15 percent, while the passenger load factor significantly improved between years or by 4.3 percentage points and was 81 percent.

According to Icelandair, the number of passengers increased in all of its markets, with the highest increase in the tourist market to Iceland. Icelandair ferried around 54,000 tourists to Iceland, with the increase between the years being 31 percent.

The airline disclosed that the passengers booking Air Iceland flights tickets increased by 7 percent, as compared to March last year. The total number of passengers taking Icelandair flights in March this year was 30,000.
