Icelandair to begin flights to Portland from May 19

Icelandair has announced that it will be launching flights to Portland International Airport in May next year. The flights to the west coast of the United States will become operational from May 19, 2015.
 
Portland, a city in the scenic State of Oregon, will be the airline’s 14th destination in North America. The flights to be operated from Keflavik International Airport will be conducted twice every week through October 20 next year. The airline had in recent years successfully added new North American routes to Seattle and Vancouver.

Andrés Jónsson, General Manager of Icelandair UK, said that the launch of flights to Portland will offer the airline opportunity to provide better connectivity and travel options to the customers in the Pacific Northwest region. He said that the airline will be offering quite competitive services from the UK and could even be saving several hours of journey time.

The new flights between Portland and Keflavik will also be efficiently connecting with the airline’s network in the United Kingdom including London Heathrow, Birmingham, Glasgow and Gatwick. The airline, apart from launching Portland-Keflavik route, said that it will also be introducing new flights to its fifth UK gateway in the East Midlands city. The new flights will start from February 5, 2015, and will be operated twice every week, on Thursdays and Mondays.

Icelandair will be increasing its capacity to North America by 12 percent in 2015 when compared to 2014. This will be the airline’s largest capacity increase to North America in its history.
