Icelandair to launch London-Keflavik flights in October

Iceland’s flag carrier Icelandair recently announced it will be expanding its London network this year. The airline disclosed that Icelandair flights will start operating twice every week between London Gatwick International Airport and Keflavik International Airport starting from October 18, 2012.

The airline said in a statement that the flight schedule has been carefully prepared so that passengers making Icelandair flight reservations from London Gatwick are able to take advantage of an ideal winter weekend city break and experience the popular Northern Lights.

Apart from this, the flight schedule will also provide the opportunity to tap into Iceland’s extensive route network throughout the US and Canada to popular destinations, including Boston, Denver, New York and Seattle.

Birkir Holm Gudnason, CEO of Icelandair, said that the new flights from London Gatwick will provide customers from UK a greater choice. He said that there has been a growing demand for winter travel to Iceland due to the popularity of the Northern Lights over the past few years. Besides, year-round whale watching and events like Iceland Airwaves are also attracting the travelers to Iceland.

Gudnason said that the new flight service will offer Icelandair further growth opportunity in London and provide a link to our many partners with connecting flights to destinations throughout Europe and more remote destinations in Asia.
