Insel Air not to fly to Venezuela due to politics, non-payments

Insel Air has announced its decision to terminate service to Venezuela. The flagship carrier of Curaçao intends to cease flights to and from the South American nation owing to the political conditions in that country. The airline like any of its counterparts, aims at offering seamless connected to cities and in no way wants to be targeted by disturbances arising out of political disturbances anywhere.

Besides the political situation, it is believed that the airline has millions of dollars trapped in the country. Even though Venezuela is a profitable route for the airline with choc-o-block flights, it seems to be undeterred in its decision. It now plans to deploy the aircrafts used on Venezuelan sectors on different routes.

The airline seems to be deeply saddened by the attitude of the country on defaulting on payments. Irrespectively, the airline continues to receive heavy passenger traffic on flights to the country. If reports are to be believed then various other airlines are facing similar issues with this country. On a serious note, if the country does not improve its position and stand on the matter it may be left with no or minimal air connections from various airlines operating service here. If the situation shows no improvement, many IATA members may threaten to pull out service from Venezuela.

The airline commenced operations in the year 2006. It flies out of its hubs in Hato International Airport, Queen Beatrix International Airport, and Princess Juliana International Airport. At present, it serves 20 destinations with its fleet of 13 aircrafts. Some of these include Oranjestad, Port-au-Prince, Orlando, Kralendijk, and Miami.
