Japan Airlines 2012 Golden Week vacation period passenger traffic results announced

Japan’s flag carrier Japan Airlines recently announced the passenger traffic results for the annual Japanese “Golden Week” vacation, which spanned from April 27 to May 6, 2012.

The airline disclosed that its capacity this Golden Week was 5.0 percent and 5.3 percent more on its international and domestic networks respectively, as compared to the holiday period last year.

Japan Airlines flights carried a total of 225,743 passengers on its international network and 935,381 passengers on its domestic network. The airline said that there was 17.7 percent increase in international travelers from Japan, while there was 8.3 percent increase in domestic travel was reported as compared to the same period in 2011.

The destinations on long-haul routes such as Hawaii and Guam were the most preferred among Japanese travelers. Japan Airlines also stated that the longer span of this year’s Golden Week greatly boosted travel to nearer destinations in China, Taiwan and Korea. The most preferred domestic destinations included Kansai and Okinawa.

The load factors improved by 8.6 percentage points to 80.3 percent full on international flights, and by almost 2 percentage points on domestic flights to 69.8 percent.
