JetBlue Airways announces profitable first quarter this year

JetBlue Airways recently announced its operational results for the first quarter of 2012, and was quite euphoric and optimistic about the outcome.
JetBlue flights showed a strong growth and garnered big revenues in Q1 this year. The airline reported record Q1 operating revenues of $1.2 billion, an increase of 18.9 percent as compared to the same period in 2011.

Providing further details, the airline stated that its revenue passenger miles for the first quarter increased 14.2 percent to $7.91 billion on a capacity increase of 12 percent, thus resulting in a first quarter load factor of 82.9 percent, an increase of 1.5 points y-o-y.

The airline also stated that its yield per passenger mile in Q1 was 13.86 cents, up 5.9 percent compared to the first quarter of 2011. The passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM) for the first quarter this year increased 8.0 percent y-o-y to 11.49 cents and operating revenue per available seat mile (RASM) increased 6.1 percent y-o-y to 12.62 cents.
