Kenya Airways to receive B 777, launch direct Guangzhou flight

Kenya Airways is set to receive the first of the three Boeing 777-300ERs in October this year. The flagship carrier of Kenya is excited to add this new member to its existing fleet. The airline expects to welcome the 400-seat aircraft somewhere in the middle of October.

Post delivery, the airline has plans to launch the newest plane on Nairobi-Guangzhou route in November 2013. At present, passengers travel on Kenya Airways flights to Guangzhou via Bangkok. However, it is keen on launching thrice-a-week nonstop service between the capital city and Guangzhou with the Boeing 777-300 ER. It will however, continue to run four times a week service to Guangzhou via Bangkok.

The airline is mulling expansion plans in the coming ten years, and as a part of its broader version is looking forward to enhancing its fleet size from 44 to 107. Currently it operates flights to 62 destinations and aims at boosting the numbers to 115 by the year 2021. Earlier this year, the airline received the delivery of three Embraer E-190s aircrafts. It is awaiting the arrival of the remaining two Boeing jets in the middle of the next year.

Presently its fleet boasts of 4 Boeing 777-200ERs, 6 Boeing 767-300ERs, 14 Boeing 737s, 18 E-170, and E-190 regional jets, and 2 737-300 freighters conversions. It has placed the orders for nine Boeing 787 Dreamliners, and hopes to receive its first Dreamliner early next year.
