Korean Air enters into codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways

South Korea’s national airline Korean Air recently signed a codeshare agreement with UAE’s national carrier Etihad Airways. The codeshare pact between the two carriers took effect from July 22, 2013.

The new partnership will allow Korean Air to place its marketing code on Etihad Airways flights being operated daily between Seoul Incheon and Abu Dhabi. The pact will also enable the members of Korean Air’s SKYPASS loyalty program and Etihad Airways’ Etihad Guest frequent flyer program to enjoy the full reciprocity.

The reciprocity will allow the members of two airlines’ loyalty programs to take advantage of various benefits including priority check-in, lounge access and excess baggage allowances. This will also enable the members to earn and burn frequent flyer points on all Korean Air and Etihad Airways flights.

James Hogan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said that the new codeshare agreement deepens the existing partnership with Korean Air beyond the interline and special prorate agreements signed in August 2009. He said that the codeshare pact with Korean Air is also a significant development for Etihad Airways.
