Korean Air to hike domestic flights airfares from July 18

South Korea’s national carrier Korean Air recently announced it will be increasing the airfares of all its domestic flights effective July 18, 2012.

The airline is increasing the airfares of domestic Korean Air flights for the first time in eight years.

Korean Air in a statement said that its Economy Class airfares will be increased by 6 percent on weekdays. Passengers booking Korean Air flights tickets to domestic destinations on weekends will have to pay 12 percent extra on airfares. However, for booking domestic flights during peak season the passengers will be charged 15 percent extra on their tickets.

The airline further stated that upgrades and surcharges will also become costly. Apart from this, there will also be an average hike of 26 percent on business class airfares to destinations within Korea.

Korean Air has, however, hinted that it is not planning to increase its international airfares in the near future.

Other low cost carriers, including Asiana Airlines are also likely to emulate Korean Air, and raise airfares.
