Korean Air to increase domestic airfares ahead of peak summer season

Korean Air flights to domestic destinations with South Korea are expected to become costly now. South Korea’s national flag carrier Korean Air recently announced it is likely to increase domestic airfares ahead of the peak summer season.

The airline’s move at this juncture is likely to adversely affect other low-cost carriers in the coming weeks.

Another leading South Korean carrier Asiana Airlines also disclosed that it will be increasing the airfares of all its flights in domestic destinations by an average of 9.9 percent starting from August 3, 2012. This will be the airline’s first hike ever since August 2004.

Korean Air hinted that the hike in airfares would be 6 percent for flights on Mondays through Thursdays. The airline will be increase airfares to 12 percent for flights on Fridays through Sundays. However, there will be a 15 percent hike on Korean Air flights tickets to be booked during holidays.
The airline further said that effective from July 18, 2012 it will be increasing airfares for all domestic flights by 9.9 percent on average.
