Lufthansa boosts its presence in Italy

Germany’s national carrier Lufthansa has announced it is committed to strengthen its presence in Italy.

Lufthansa officials recently presented an elaborate plan outlining its further development in the Italian market. The officials, who presented the plan in Rome, included Lufthansa Director General for Italy Thomas Eggert and Lufthansa Group Communication director for Europe Aage Dünhaupt.

Eggert disclosed that in 2011 Lufthansa flights set a new record for passengers traveling to and from Italy. He stated that Italy remains to be the most important market in Europe and the airline is committed to further increase its presence in the country.

The airline stated that more than 7 million passengers booked Lufthansa flights tickets to travel on routes between Germany and Italy last year, which is an increase of 10 percent as compared to 2010.

Currently, Lufthansa is operating 27 new weekly flights to Berlin from Rome, Milan, Bologna and Catania. The airline has also introduced new flights between Bologna and Düsseldorf as well as between Palermo and Munich. The airline is also operating two daily flights between Naples and Frankfurt.
