Lufthansa cabin crew to go on strike throughout Germany on September 7

Lufthansa flights will remain grounded on Friday, September 7, 2012 as the airline’s cabin crew has said it will go on strike throughout Germany on that day for a full 24 hours.
 
The airline said that Lufthansa flights tickets bookings have been severely impacted and flights cancelled after strong protests from the airline’s cabin crew in a row over pay and other conditions, which threatens to go on for weeks causing huge losses to Germany’s national flag carrier.

Lufthansa in a statement said that its cabin crews staged walk out at Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich airports on September 4 that led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights leaving 26,000 passengers stranded. The strike call on September 7 has also forced the airline to take steps to cancel hundreds of flights on that day.

The strike on September 4 had led to the cancellation of over 300 flights be the airline. Currently, Lufthansa operates flights services from 16 airports across Germany. 

Lufthansa cabin crew is agitating for long over a 5 percent pay increase, the use of temporary workers, and guarantees against outsourcing. The airline has, however, offered a pay hike of 3.5 percent in exchange for longer hours.
