Lufthansa flagship A380 aircraft named New York

One of Lufthansa’s flagship A380 aircraft has been officially named as “New York”.

The aircraft was named at a ceremony attended by Christoph Franz, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Lufthansa, and Seth Pinsky, President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation.

Lufthansa’s Airbus bearing the registration D-AIMH has become the airline’s first A380 to be named after a U.S. city.

A model of the airline’s flagship aircraft and a certificate commemorating the celebratory name-giving was presented to Seth Pinsky by Lufthansa CEO Christoph Franz.

On February 28, 2011, New York became Lufthansa’s first A380 destination in the U.S.

The airline in a statement said that daily A380 Lufthansa flights will start operating between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Frankfurt International Airport from May 21, 2012.

“New York” will be Lufthansa’s sixth aircraft to be named after a foreign mega-city. The livery of the plane and a plaque in the aircraft’s entry area will bear the name "New York".
