Lufthansa passenger traffic on Germany-Russia routes up 5 percent in Q1

Germany’s leading carrier Lufthansa recently announced its passenger traffic results for the first quarter of 2012 on its Russian routes, and sounded upbeat at the outcome.

The airline, while disclosing its Q1 results, said that the passenger traffic on Germany-Russia routes increased by 5 percent.
Lufthansa has introduced many new routes and launched a number of flights to Russia and CIS countries this year.

The airline in a statement said that Lufthansa flights services between Hamburg and St. Petersburg were launched in March-end this year. Apart from this, Lufthansa also unveiled flights to Ukraine, with the launch of new Munich-Odessa route this May.

The airline said that it has also doubled its weekly flights services between Berlin and Moscow from June 3, 2012. The airline is now operating a total of 12 flights every week between these two cities, in spite of the delay in the opening of Berlin’s Brandenburg International Airport.
 
According to Lufthansa, 1.5 million passengers traveled on Germany-Russia routes in 2011. The airline carried about 600,000 passengers along from the CIS countries. Currently, Lufthansa is serving 17 destinations in Russia and the CIS countries, operating 243 flights every week.
