Lufthansa takes delivery of its first Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft

Lufthansa recently announced it has taken the delivery of its first Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft. This is the first delivery of its kind to a passenger airline.

The GEnx-2B-powered aircraft is priced at $333 million. The new aircraft features an 8,000nm (14,816 km) range and has a capacity for 467 passengers in a three-class cabin.

Lufthansa flights will begin operating on Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft between Frankfurt-Washington (Dulles) and Los Angeles-Chicago O’Hare later this year.

The airline in a statement said that the aircraft will be configured with 362 seats – 262 in Economy Class, 92 in Business Class and 8 in First Class.

According to the aircraft maker Boeing, the 747-8 Intercontinental will provide double-digit improvements in fuel burn and emissions and 30 percent less noise as compared to the 747-400 aircraft.

Christoph Franz, Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, said that the airline will get a further boost with the newest generation of four-engine aircraft join the fleet.
