Lufthansa win prestigious Environment award

Lufthansa flights are now going green. Germany’s national flag carrier Lufthansa was recently awarded the first prize presented by Strategy Awards in the environment category. The prestigious British Airline Business magazine gives away the Strategy Awards in various categories every year.

The airline was presented the award after a decision reached at by an independent jury of acclaimed industry experts for the pioneering role in testing and developing synthetic fuel in aviation for Lufthansa flights.
Lufthansa is the first airline in the world to conduct long-term tests with bio-kerosene in scheduled flight operation in 2011.

The airline said that it operated eight Lufthansa flights every day between Frankfurt and Hamburg utilizing an Airbus A321. The one-engine Airbus A321 aircraft was powered half-and-half by a mixture of conventional fuel and biofuel fuel.  The trials were successful and tests proved that biofuel can be utilized without any problems whatsoever in flight operations.
