Malaysia Airlines to become oneworld member from February

Malaysia Airlines recently announced it will formally become a member of the leading global airline alliance oneworld from next year.

The airline in a statement said that it will officially obtain the membership of oneworld on February 1, 2013. The decision of the airline has come after 20 months it first announced its plans to join the alliance.

Qantas Airways is sponsoring the entry of Malaysia’s national flag carrier Malaysia Airlines entry into the oneworld alliance.  Earlier, the airline received clearance to become oneworld member after a successful review assessing its readiness was conducted by Qantas Airways.

By becoming a member, Malaysia Airlines flights network will be significantly expanded and will be able to provide frequent flyer privileges and other reciprocal benefits to its customers.

The other oneworld alliance member airlines include American Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Airberlin, Finnair, Japan Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, Qantas Airways, S7 Airlines, Royal Jordanian Airlines, LAN Airlines and some 25 affiliated airlines.
