Norwegian Air plans to reshape low-cost Atlantic travel

Norwegian Air is planning to embark on an ambitious strategy to expand its network far beyond the region. It is presently the first of the large low-cost carriers in Europe eagerly looking forward to extend its reach to even as far as the United States.

Bjørn Kjos, CEO of Norwegian Air, recently outlined the airline’s bold plans that will eventually connect various U.S. destinations with major European cities. The airline wants to reshape its low-cost travel significantly across the Atlantic by operating a fleet of smaller Boeing aircrafts.

The airline is presently the first of the large European LCC to connect big U.S. cities like Los Angeles and New York with the help of a small fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircrafts.

Kjos said that the airline has already placed orders for single-aisle aircrafts with Boeing and is anxiously awaiting approval of its new Ireland-based subsidiary by U.S. regulators. If this finally comes through then the airline will be able to operate freely to smaller cities in the United States where the bigger Dreamliners are not required.
 
Media reports quoted Bjørn Kjos as saying that the Boeing 737 Max is undoubtedly the perfect aircraft for conveniently connecting smaller cities directly across the Atlantic. The airline has therefore placed an order for 100 Boeing 737 Max aircrafts and will be taking the delivery of its first aircraft soon.

Norwegian Air’s plans to make a foray into the United States are being strongly opposed by U.S. carriers and the application for approval of its Irish subsidiary by the U.S. Department of Transportation has created a controversy. Kjos is however optimistic and says that if this finally takes place, then the travelers will stand to benefit greatly with low fares.
