Australian government supports Qantas Airways proposed tie-up with Emirates Airline

Recent media reports have said that Qantas Airways’ proposed 10-year alliance with Middle East carrier Emirates Airline has received a strong support from the Australian government. The proposed tie-up is aimed at broadening Qantas Airways flights network globally at minimal cost.
 
The Department of Infrastructure and Transport in a recent submission to the competition regulator said that it hoped that the partnership between Qantas Airways and Emirates Airline will deepen competition and enhance consumer choice. This will also help Qantas Airways to widen its international flight network at minimal cost. The competition regulator is currently assessing the tie-up between the two carriers.

The Department of Infrastructure and Transport in its submission further said that it is of a firm view that the alliance will likely deliver a long-term and sustainable competition to the international aviation markets. This will be in addition to providing short-term benefits to the consumers of the two respective carriers.
