Qantas Airways codeshare partnership with South African Airways extended for two years

Australia’s national flag carrier Qantas Airways recently announced its codeshare partnership with South African Airways has been extended.
The decision by regulatory authorities will enable Qantas Airways flights to continue to be operated between Australia and Johannesburg for the next two years.

The airline had put up a request with the International Air Services Commission to approve its codeshare alliance with South African Airways until March 2016. The regulatory authorities, however, decided to approve the alliance only for a period of another two years.

Both the carriers are expected to fulfill the conditions imposed by the International Air Services Commission for the codeshare alliance to be approved until March 2016. The conditions require that Qantas Airways and South African Airways will have to operate at least 13 flights every week between Australia and Johannesburg.
 
The International Air Services Commission in its decision said that the codeshare alliance between the two carriers was unlikely to “remove incentives for competition” in the next two years.
