Qantas Airways extending trial of inflight iPads

Australia’s leading carrier Qantas Airways recently announced it has decided to extend the trial of its inflight iPads until the end of 2012. The airline has taken this decision as it wants to equip Qantas Airways flights with the wireless technology.

The airline will be installing the wireless technology across its fleet – both on domestic and international routes.

The Q Streaming platform, a part of this wireless technology, will be beaming TV shows, music and movies on to the iPads, which will be provided to each of the passenger onboard the aircraft.
 
The airline is conducting the trial on a Boeing 767 aircraft. According to Qantas Airways, a Boeing 767 aircraft has been particularly chosen for the trial because the aircraft is used to operate flights on a variety of domestic routes. These routes include short Sydney-Melbourne flights as well as five-hour flights between east and west coasts of Australia.
 
An iPad 2 will be kept in the seat-back pocket of the aircraft and will be provided to all the passengers. However, for passengers booking Qantas Airways flights tickets on Business Class will also be provided a flexible stand to be used on the fold-down meal tray.
