Qantas Airways plans to save up to $100 million annually through restructuring

Qantas Airways flights have failed to put up a strong showing causing huge losses to Australia’s national carrier. To offset further losses, the airline is all set to embark on an ambitious restructuring plan which will help it make significant savings.

Qantas Airways recently disclosed its plans and said that it will be making 500 jobs cuts as it restructures its heavy aircraft maintenance and engineering operations in Queensland and Victoria.
 
The airline will effect 422 jobs cuts from its heavy maintenance base at Tullamarine airport in Melbourne. It will also cut 113 jobs at its base at Avalon, on Melbourne's outskirts, due to the retirement of five 747 aircraft this year.
 
The airline, however said that 30 new line maintenance jobs will be created in Melbourne and five in Sydney. The airline will also be opening up jobs in Brisbane with the operations of heavy maintenance moving there.

Qantas Airways said that it expected to save up to $100 million annually by consolidating its heavy maintenance and other engineering operations. According to the airline, there was not enough heavy maintenance work to maintain three separate facilities.
