Qatar Airways size to be doubled by 2020

Qatar Airways has hinted that by 2020 its size is going to be doubled. Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive of Qatar Airways, said that the speed with which the airline is considerably growing provides sufficient indications that it will be twice the size it is today by 2020.

Al Baker said that Qatar Airways flights will serve around the world at least two and a half times the number of passengers being served today. The airline currently operates a fleet of 108 aircrafts serving 113 destinations across the world.

Al Baker further said that the airline is on an aggressive expansion spree and will become a global player in future. The airline has placed orders for more than 250 aircrafts worth more than $50 billion (Dh183.6 billion). The aircrafts includes Boeing 787s, 777s, Airbus A350s, A380s and A320s. 

The airline plans to introduce 11 new routes this year. It is also planning to double its U.S. network by starting flights to Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and Detroit within the next year.
