Qatar Airways to receive five Boeing 787 Dreamliners this year

Middle East’s leading carrier Qatar Airways recently announced it is all set to receive five Boeing 787 Dreamliners this year. This will be in addition to several Airbus A320 and Boeing 777 aircrafts.

Akbar al-Baker, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways, said that the airline on an average receives one new aircraft every 15 days.

Currently, the airline has already ordered for three Airbus A320s (family aircraft), 80 Airbus A320 Neos (including options), 12 Boeing 777s, including freighters and options, and 60 Boeing 787s including options. These are apart from Airbus A350 and A380-800 aircrafts.

Akbar al-Baker said that Qatar Airways flights are expected to carry nearly 17 million passengers in the current financial year ending in April 2013.
He also said that Qatar Airways will be exploring for opportunities for its route expansion and would be focusing on whichever region as soon as the opportunity comes its way. The airline is currently looking at destinations or regions that are under served, such as in South America, Africa or Asia.
