Scandinavian Airlines announces August 2013 traffic results

SAS Group, which operates Scandinavian Airlines, seemed jubilant while announcing the operational results for the month of August 2013. The company said that Scandinavian Airline’s capacity (ASK) had increased by 11.7 percent. The capacity increase was attributed to growing traffic on leisure routes to southern Europe.

Providing more details, the company said that the passenger traffic (RPK) on Scandinavian Airlines had remarkably increased by 10.3 percent. However, the airline’s load factor for the month decreased by 1 percentage unit to 77.8 percent. According to the company, Scandinavian Airlines carried 2.4 million passengers in August this year, up by 3.3 percent as compared to the same month last year.

SAS Group said that one of the main objectives of the company is that it wants to operate Scandinavian Airlines efficiently considering the costs and flexibility in order to compete in the growing leisure market as well. The company further said that Scandinavian Airlines had undergone a major restructuring exercise enabling the customers to fly with the airline at competitive prices even during holiday periods. The company disclosed that Scandinavian Airlines has succeeded in boosting its passenger traffic in the month of August 2013. According to the airline, the passenger traffic growth rates have been particularly strong on European and intercontinental routes.

The company concluded that overall the market is developing according to the expectations of Scandinavian Airlines. The airline has however predicted a negative RASK trend for the full financial year 2012/13. The airline also expects the capacity increase to be approximately 5 to 6 percent for the financial year 2012-13.
