Singapore Airlines adding second daily Airbus A380 service on Melbourne-Singapore route

Singapore Airlines recently announced it will be adding a second Airbus A380 service on Melbourne-Singapore route to be operated daily starting August this year.

The airline in a statement said that Singapore Airlines flights service SQ218 currently operating on Melbourne-Singapore route with the help of a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will be upgraded to Airbus A380 service starting from August 17, 2012.

According to the airline, the southbound Singapore-Melbourne flight SQ217 will start flying a day earlier on August 16, 2012 utilizing Airbus A380 aircraft.

The airline stated that flight SQ227/228 is already being operated on Airbus A380. While, the third flight SQ237/238 is being operated on a Boeing 777 aircraft.

Subhas Menon, Singapore Airlines’ Regional Vice President, had earlier indicated that the airline is planning to operate as many Airbus A380 aircrafts as it can on Sydney and Melbourne routes. He said that Australia is a growing market in terms of prominence on the airline’s network.
