Singapore Airlines suspending flights to Abu Dhabi, Athens Oct 26

Singapore Airlines flights will no longer serve Abu Dhabi and Athens after October this year. The airline recently announced it will be suspending its flights services to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Athens in Greece after October 26, 2012. The airline has decided to stop the flights because of the sustained weak performance of both routes.

Singapore Airlines had been operating flight services to Athens ever since 1972, while flights to Abu Dhabi were being operated since 2006.

The airline in a statement said that suspending its flight services to both these destinations is a difficult one, but the decision is in line with Singapore Airlines’ policy to match capacity to prevailing market demand. 

The airline said that the customers holding confirmed tickets for travel to and from Abu Dhabi and Athens after October 26, 2012 (October 27 for the return Abu Dhabi-Singapore service) will be eligible for refunds, without administrative fees or penalties. This also applies to KrisFlyer redemption tickets. The affected customers will also be offered alternative travel options.
