Singapore Airlines to hike fuel surcharges in Hong Kong

Singapore Airlines and two other carriers are all set to raise fuel surcharges in Hong Kong from April this year.

Passengers from Hong Kong booking Singapore Airlines flights will now have to pay more starting April 2012. The airline said that the Civil Aviation Department of Hong Kong has already given its approval for passenger fuel surcharges to be hiked from April.

The new maximum surcharges for short-haul flights will be about $29.62 and for long-haul flights it will be $145.80, thus representing increases of 8 percent and 9 percent respectively. 

The two other carriers set to raise passenger fuel surcharges include All Nippon Airways and Cathay Pacific Airways.

Singapore Airlines in a statement said passenger fuel surcharges will allow it and other carriers to partially recover the increase in operational costs due to fluctuations in aviation fuel prices.

The airline disclosed that the surcharges are reviewed regularly. The last review was conducted at the end of February this year.
