More carriers buying aircrafts with larger overhead bins

Even as passengers taking Spirit Airlines flights or by Allegiant Air and continue to pay more for luggage stored in overhead bins, there are more U.S. carriers now opting to buy aircrafts with larger overhead bins.
 
According to travel experts, the fight for overhead bin space has now become more intense than ever on airlines that continue to charge checked bag fees.

In order to dodge the costly checked bag fees, many travelers are opting for carry-ons and putting considerable pressure on airlines’ limited overhead bin space.

To cope up with the increased carry-on bag demand, there are many carriers now either retrofitting the aircrafts or purchasing new jets with larger overhead bins.

Low-cost carriers like Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Air are charging for luggage stored in overhead bins, which is aimed at discouraging travelers from bringing large bags on board as the consume much of the boarding time.

Spirit Airlines, which is charging for carry-ons for the past two years, has successfully cut its boarding time by an average of more than six minutes.

By opting for aircrafts with larger overhead bins, the carriers are trying the best to improve their customer experience.
