Spirit Airlines begins service to Dallas-Fort Worth

Spirit Airlines recently announced the launch of its service to Dallas-Fort Worth. The move of the airline is being seen as a direct challenge to the ailing American Airlines, which has its home hub at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

The airline began operating flights a few days ago from Dallas-Fort Worth to three US destinations including Atlanta and New York’s LaGuardia Airport.

The airline has announced further expansion plans and indicated that it will be adding three more destinations in the country next month, including Boston and Phoenix.

Spirit Airlines flights will start operating in May this year to Tampa and Myrtle Beach from Dallas-Fort Worth. Besides, the airline has also sought federal government approval to begin flights to Toluca, Mexico, so that it may find easy to offer Spirit Airlines flight tickets at low fares to these destinations. 

Currently, about 85 percent of the flights at Dallas-Fort Worth are controlled by American Airlines and its short-haul affiliate American Eagle. The American Airlines group has filed for bankruptcy protection in November last year.
