Spirit Airlines new baggage fees angers travelers

Most of the customers taking Spirit Airlines flights regularly are now angry as the airline has started charging more for a carry-on bag.

Travel experts said that a new fee of up to $100 for a carry-on bag introduced by Spirit Airlines is triggering disgust from customers, who are weary of add-on fees.

Spirit Airlines had announced on November 6, 2011 that it will begin charging $35 from customers for a carry-on bag when they book their ticket early. For customers paying their bills at check-in, the airline is charging $50. However, those who show up at the gate without having bought a ticket, are being made to pay a hefty $100 fee.

The customers are now complaining that it’s a huge jump from the $45 Spirit Airlines charges for a carry-on bag today for travelers who buy a ticket at airport gates.

Travel experts said that this extra charge has made a lot of customers greatly upset as they don’t like the different fees, and which is quite confusing to the average customer.

Spirit Airlines is considered as the first U.S. carrier to charge a check-in baggage fee and later on a carry-on bag fee. According to travel experts, hitting the watershed $100 mark has created fears among the customers, and other airlines will follow suit.
