Spirit Airlines to charge identical fees for domestic, international customers from November 6

Leading U.S. low cost carrier Spirit Airlines recently announced it will start charging its customers identical fees for both domestic and international Spirit Airlines flights starting from November 6, 2012.

The hike will lead customers booking Spirit Airlines flights tickets to pay $100 for carry-on bags that are checked at the gate. The airline is now charging a fee of $45 for each carry-on bags. Apart from this, the airline has also decided to increase fees for carry-on bags that are purchased before airport arrival. In this case, the fee will be increased from the existing $5 to $10.

The airline also stated that it will begin charging new $2 fee for each kiosk-printed boarding pass starting from October this year. Earlier, in January this year the airline began charging a fee of $5 for boarding passes that are issued by airport agents.

The U.S. Department of Transportation recently released its data disclosing that in the first three months of 2012 U.S. carriers earned $1.45 billion in baggage as well as reservation cancellation/change fees. The U.S. carriers earned $816 million from baggage fees alone out of a total $1.45 billion.
