Cuba flights operated by Sun Country Airlines performing well

Sun Country Airlines flights to and from Cuba have been performing remarkably well.  Sun Country Airlines in a statement said that its regular flights to/from Cuba have shown great progress and has been received well by the Cubans.

The Mendota Heights-based Sun Country Airlines, on behalf of an organization called Cuban Travel Services, started offering daily charter flights from July 1, 2013. The flights are being offered between Miami and Havana. Commercial flights are still banned to Cuba. Sun Country Airlines therefore doesn’t operate flights to Havana from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Sun Country Airlines is paid by the hour for the use of its aircrafts, which it operates on behalf of Cuban Travel Services, an organization authorized by the U.S. Treasury Department as a licensed Cuban Service Provider. Apart from Sun Country Airlines, the Cuban Travel Services also works with American Airlines.

According to Sun Country Airlines, it is using its normal Boeing 737-800 aircrafts to operate flights on the route. The aircraft carries 162 passengers. The airline said that most of the flights it has so far been operating have been full. John Fredericksen, CEO of Sun Country Airlines, said that the airline is being constantly recruited by Cuban Travel Services and similar groups for several years only because of its experience with flying other charters around the world.
