Sun Country launches nonstop service between MSP and Washington

Sun Country Airlines recently launched direct service between Minneapolis-St. Paul and Washington Reagan. The low cost carrier is up for some serious expansion this year. Like many of its counterparts, it is looking forward to expand its reach across the country by opening different routes.

Passengers can now book Sun Country flights for budget travel between the two destinations. Currently it is set to offer six-times-a-week flights to its customers. The carrier will deploy its Boeing 737-800 planes to ply on the 1,500 km long route.

The airline is not alone to provide flights on this segment. It will face stiff competition from giant rivals US Airways and Delta Air Lines. US Airways offers 19 direct weekly flights and Delta Airlines offers five nonstop daily flights on this route. It will try to beat out the competition with its distinctive low fares and entice the travelers to fly on a budget friendly option between these two cities.

The airline has made Washington its 32nd destination, and it is committed to spread its wings to other cities gradually. It plans to boost the frequency to daily beginning May 1, 2014.

The airline’s headquarters are based in Minneapolis–Saint Paul. It operates passenger and charter services to several destinations within the United States, Mexico, Caribbean, and Costa Rica. In fact, it offers charter service to the Armed Forces in the U.S. At present, its fleet comprises seven Boeing 737-700 aircrafts, and eleven Boeing 737-800 planes.
