Sun Country to expand seasonal service to Rio Grande Valley

Sun Country Airlines, the Minneapolis based carrier is expanding its seasonal service to the Rio Grande Valley. The airline announced its decision to operate seasonal flight to Rio Grande Valley and add a stop at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.

It is scheduled to commence service on Minneapolis-Valley International Airport (VIA) from September 1, 2013. Its flights departing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday will now stop at Dallas Fort Worth. Beginning October 14, 2013 the carrier will add one additional flight to Minneapolis via Dallas Fort Worth every Monday.

Jose Mulet, VIA’s Director of Business Development said the airline has been serving this destination dedicatedly for past 17 years. He added that as per the past records the airline has been operating on the route from October 1 until the end of April but has now decided to extend flights through the memorial day. He said that the airline shares a special bond with the valley, which is one reason for increased demand between the two destinations.

Passengers can now book Sun Country tickets and fly on this route for a longer period of time. Apparently, the airline has ordered two new planes and wishes to purchase two more next year. This move is looked as a part of its expansion plans to launch operations to Harlingen.

The airline believes that the extension of its seasonal service is a good strategy. It may launch year round service to Fort Myers, Florida in the near future.
