AA To Redo Its Boeing 777-200ER Fleet, Style Its Business Class

American Airlines in planning to retrofit its Boeing 777-200ER fleet. It Plans to redo its entire interior, offer new seat configuration and completely remove its First Class section.

American Airlines’ Boeing 777-200ER fleet comprising 47 aircrafts will now offer 260 seats instead of the earlier 247. All the 16 lie-flat seats, part of its first class section will be removed. The space created will be used towards increasing the seat capacity of its business class section. It will now offer 45 lie-flat seats in lieu of 37 angle-flat seats. All the 45 seats will have direct aisle access. This means no more stepping over your co-passenger.

The all new business class seats, designed in a herringbone-style, will be rear facing. By altering the aircraft's three-class configuration to a two-class configuration, American will also be able to offer 45 “Main Cabin Extra” seats. All of them will come with additional six inches of legroom. AA plans to sell these seats to its high-value customers traveling in economy class. Economy class seats on 777-200ER's will be reduced to 170 from the existing 194 seats.

By offering Main Cabin Extra seats and the Main Cabin seats in the retrofitted 777-200ER, with the same kind of seats fitted 777-300ER the airline is also enhancing its Economy class products. All these seats will come with an 8.9-inch HD-capable touch screen, offering numerous TV programs, movies, games and music. Onboard Wi-Fi, personal 110v AC power outlets and USB ports will also be provided on each of these seats.
