Aer Lingus eyeing Canadian tourists with new off-season flights

The way Canadian tourists visit Ireland is all set to change now. Tourists from the North American destination of Canada traditionally visit Ireland during the months between May and September. The remaining months witness fewer visitors from the country.

This trend is however undergoing a radical transformation now. Ireland’s national carrier Aer Lingus and Air Canada’s low-cost subsidiary Air Canada Rogue have recently introduced direct year-round flights to Dublin from Toronto. This has raised tremendous hopes among the tourism officials in Ireland, who expect to see the number of Canadian tourists growing significantly, particularly during off-season.

According to a spokesperson of Tourism Ireland, with the launch of the new off-season flights the total count of travelers from Canada to Ireland is likely to significantly increase by 47 percent in three years. Nearly 125,000 Canadian tourists had visited Ireland in 2013.

Apart from Aer Lingus and Air Canada Rogue, other airlines offering seasonal, warm-weather flights between the two countries include WestJet and Air Transat.

The Tourism Ireland in a statement said that there are several reasons to plan your travel to Ireland during winters. Among various advantages of visiting during the fall include cheap airfares, better deals on accommodation, and smaller tourist crowds. The tourists from Canada will also get opportunity to participate in many events as well. These include 3-day New Year’s Eve celebration in Dublin, 4-day Temple Bar Tradfest of Irish music to be held in the city during fag end of January, and the week-long St. Patrick’s Festival held across Ireland in March.
