Ireland’s flagship carrier Aer Lingus has recently launched its 2017/18 winter flights schedule, which is said to be the largest ever in its history. The biggest increase so far includes 350 additional transatlantic flights. The significant boost in the transatlantic sector signals the capacity growth by 13 percent. The airline’s newly acquired Airbus A330-300 aircraft will play a major role in conducting flight operations for the winter season.
As part of its new winter schedule Aer Lingus launched its new direct flights to Miami from Dublin effective from September 1, 2017. The flights on the route will be operated thrice weekly. The airline will also be tremendously increasing its Dublin-Toronto capacity by 96 percent. The Toronto-Dublin route will be served four-times per week with the help of Airbus A330-300 aircraft. The leading Irish carrier has also said that it will be frequencies to Washington as well and operate a once daily service by the end of 2017. The seat capacity to Washington will increase to 44 percent.
Media reports said that the flight operations at Cardiff Airport have been recently ended by Aer Lingus. However, flights to Dublin from Cardiff will continue to be operated by Flybe in codeshare partnership with Aer Lingus. The Dublin-Cardiff route will now be served with up to 18 flights per week. The new arrangement between the two airlines has made Welsh passengers happy as they will gain easy access to their preferred destinations via Dublin. Some of these destinations to be accessed by Welsh customers via Dublin include Washington, Toronto, San Francisco, Orlando, New York, Los Angeles, Hartford, Chicago and Boston. Through the codeshare agreement the customers would no longer be required to travel on multiple tickets purchased from different airlines.
Mike Rutter, Chief Operating Officer of Aer Lingus, said, “The significant expansion of our European and long-haul destinations is a big leap forward and makes the winter schedule biggest ever in Aer Lingus’ history. We want to offer hassle free, seamless, convenient, fastest and cheapest transfer to North American destinations from our Dublin hub.”
