Aer Lingus has said it is in the process of getting new aircrafts through which it will be expanding its flights services to North American destinations. The airline’s owner IAG has placed orders for two new Airbus A330-300 aircrafts to be included in its transatlantic fleet. The aircrafts will be deployed for operations in 2017.
Aer Lingus recently marked its 80th anniversary. The airline started its operations from May 27, 1936, with its first ever flights services between Bristol and Baldonnel. After decades on nonstop operations, the airline is presently conducting flights services on 117 routes and has carried 12 million passengers so far in 2016.
Media reports said that Aer Lingus recently started its flights to Los Angeles. The airline will further expand its North American network with flights to Newark Liberty and Hartford from September this year. The airline is also planning to expand its fleet bringing to a total of 20 aircrafts in the next five years.
Meanwhile, Aer Lingus has achieved the distinction of becoming the first Irish carrier to get the prestigious four-star rating by Skytrax, a global air transport rating organization. The airlines worldwide are awarded the ratings based on a series of parameters both in the air as well as on the ground, including staff standards and product quality.
With the new four-star rating, Aer Lingus has now joined an exclusive list of 40 international airlines which have succeeded in getting this rating. Some of the leading airlines include Emirates Airline, Lufthansa, British Airways and Air France.
Stephen Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Aer Lingus, said, “The year 2016 is proving to be outstanding and fruitful so far in the history of the airline. The airline has achieved many milestones. During this year, Aer Lingus is planning its transatlantic expansion. The airline is also celebrating its 80th anniversary. Above all, the airline also takes pride in becoming Ireland’s exclusive and only four-star airline.”
