Air France KLM long-haul order split between Airbus A350s and Boeing 787s

Air France KLM recently provided details about its future new-generation, long-range aircrafts acquisition. The airline said that its board has given the approval for ordering 50 firm aircraft in addition to 60 options.

The airline group in a statement said that the acquisition of 50 firm aircraft has been evenly divided between Boeing 787s and Airbus A350s. However, discussions with two leading aircraftmakers over the said acquisition are yet to be finalized.

The airline group said that the acquisition will comprise a mix of Airbus A350s and Dreamliners. Air France KLM said that it will acquire 43 Airbus A350-900s and 30 Boeing 787-9s through 2024.

According to the airline group, the first Boeing 787-9 will join KLM’s fleet in 2016, while the first Airbus A350-900 will join Air France’s fleet in 2018. Both Air France and KLM will be operating both types of aircraft later on.

This is the first joint long-haul aircraft order ever since Air France and KLM announced their merger in 2004.
