Airlines compete for business class customers on NYC-LA route

A stiff competition is currently on among leading U.S. airlines vying to attract premium customers on the lucrative New York-Los Angeles in a big way. The customers who are ready to pay for their added comfort stand to benefit greatly from this competition. Media reports recently said that a number of airlines flying between New York and Los Angeles are being offered lie-flat beds on the business class flights.

The two leading U.S. carriers – United Airlines and Delta Air Lines – have taken the lead by offering newly-designed international standard seats that ultimately convert into flat beds for their customers traveling on business class tickets. The new business class seats are being offered only on select flights between the two largest cities of the United States.

JetBlue Airways and American Airlines have also decided to follow suit and will be offering similar facilities for their customers traveling in business class cabins. According to media reports, both the airlines have indicated that they would be launching lie-flat beds on domestic transcontinental routes in 2015. Both the airlines have also said that they are going to provide vigorous competition to Delta Air Lines and United Airlines. However, Virgin America is yet to announce its plans regarding this. David Cush, Chief Executive of Virgin America, said that no decision has yet been taken to upgrade to lie-flat beds. He observed that the four airlines – United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways and American Airlines – are competing with each other for the same pot of gold.
