Airlines Declare their Summer Schedules at Palm Springs Airport

It is that time of the year when air field of Palm Springs will become quieter. Life at Coachella Valley will decelerate as airlines flying to PSP plan abatement.

Frontier Airlines have suspended their seasonal flights to Denver. Spokeswoman Kate O’Malley said we are happy with the way our flights have performed in the region and we cannot wait to return again in October 2014.

Virgin America has also suspended their once-a-day service to San Francisco and once-a-week service to John F. Kennedy International Airport. Jennifer Thomas, spokeswoman for Virgin America said we have already started selling SFO-PSP tickets for our next season, beginning November 21, 2014. Though, she did not mention anything about the nonstop JFK-PSP service, operated by the airline during the last two winter seasons.

Alaska Airlines one of the most prominent airlines operating out of Palm Springs International Airport will continue offering twice daily flights to San Francisco International Airport. However, it stopped its Sacramento- Palm Springs route and will discontinue Portland-Palm Springs service on June 7. Marianne Lindsey, spokeswoman Alaska Airlines said we will reduce our Seattle-Palm Springs service to twice daily during May and will eventually reduce it to twice a week starting June 8. This service will be ramped to once daily from August 24 and will be back in full service from November 2.

American Airlines is the next to join this suspension schedule. The airline will stop offering its nonstop service to Chicago O’ Hare Airport from early June. It will reopen its service early by one month and will begin from October 2.

As per an industry expert, curtailing flights to Palm Springs during summers is nothing new. Traffic to Palm Springs is seasonal and drastically reduces during the summer months. Keeping the profitability and viability into consideration airlines reduce or suspend their operations to PSP. It is a simple case of demand and supply.
