Airlines finding new ways to make flights cheaper

There’s a growing trend among airlines now to accommodate more passengers, make flights cheaper and reduce weight on aircrafts significantly. Media reports recently said that nearly 500 exhibitors participated in Aircraft Interiors Expo in German city of Hamburg in April this year. Most of the exhibitors promoted new ideas which would effectively reduce weight on aircrafts and save fuels. The exhibitors showcased innovative layouts that would accommodate more seats per cabin.

The exhibitors brought forth many new concepts. One of the concepts showcased seats in which passengers will be seated face to face. In yet another concept seats were showcased in a diagonal, staggered layout. A lightweight lap belt was also showcased by a company. Another concept pointed out that bathroom will be designed in such a way that a few additional passengers will be accommodated at the back of the cabins.

The airlines want to accommodate maximum number of passengers that are allowed by U.S. federal regulators. However, the U.S. carriers are still to reach that stage.

According to media reports, French company Zodiac Aerospace, a prominent airline interior manufacturer in the world, has introduced a set of three seats – one passenger will be seated facing forward, another will be seated facing backward, while the third one will be seated facing forward. The present seat designs are aimed for short-haul flights.

Spirit Airlines, a U.S.-based low-cost carrier, is renowned for its super-tight seating. The no-frills airline is also known for dozens of fees for amenities like carry-on bags and soft drinks.
