Airlines try various gimmicks to earn more, attract passengers

Airlines within the United States are doing everything in their capacity to earn more money. Therefore, to increase their revenues and benefit from accommodating maximum travelers on a single plane, airlines are resorting to various gimmicks. Strategic changes though are benefiting the airlines a great deal, but at the same time are creating woes amongst the travelers. After all, the travelers have to face the wrath of changes made to the seat planers or anything.

Miramar, Florida based Spirit Airlines is one perfect example. The budget carrier is noted for its no-frills services yet the prices make the customers keep coming back for more. Though the airline offers, cheap airfare to travelers there is nothing more or better that travelers should expect from it. On one hand, the travelers feel disappointed with the kind of services provided on the other hand, the compelling prices are too lucrative to ignore.

Various airlines are playing around the idea of offering as many seats in their economy cabins as much possible. This indeed means trimming down seat width to accommodate more passengers. Some airlines are toying with the idea of reducing seat pitch and offering water bottles, and snacks for a price. Some are even charging the passengers for printing the boarding passes and taking carry-on baggage into the cabins.

Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines are propagating the idea of slimmer seats and setting base for a new wave of modern day competition. These airlines also have provisions for wider seats for which the travelers will have to shell out more money. United Continental too is in the fray with Economy Plus seats that are made available at fares higher than the standard economy class. Some airlines do not charge extra fees for these seat upgrades but provide them to the passengers as a reward under their frequent flyer program.
