AirTran Airways flights lauded for best on-time performance

AirTran Airways flights have done exceedingly well in terms of the best on-time performance. The US Department of Transportation said that AirTran Airways has topped the list in December 2011 and has been acknowledged for its best on-time performance. This also has been a good news for passengers booking air tickets and taking AirTran Airways flights to various destinations.

The other airlines which performed well in this segment, includes Hawaiian Airlines and Delta Air Lines. However, the carriers which failed in maintaining their flight schedule punctuality, includes Frontier Airlines, Continental Airlines and ExpressJet Airlines.

According to the DOT's Bureau of Transportation Statistics, airlines were on time 79.6 percent of the time during 2011, the fourth highest for any year in the 17 years with comparable numbers. The department also said that December last year proved to be a particularly good month for airlines. Usually, December is a typical month fraught with delays and cancellations because of high passenger traffic as well as the weather.

The DOT's Bureau of Transportation Statistics said that in December 2011 the airlines were on time 84.4 percent of the time. This is also the highest percentage for any December during the past 17 years, which was significantly up 72 percent in December 2010.
