Alaska Airlines and others vying to offer freebies to attract premium passengers

Alaska Airlines and other airlines including American Airlines, Virgin America and Spirit Airlines are competing with each other to offer freebies to their premium customers in a bid to attract them.

The airlines are vying with each other to attract First Class and Business Class customers by offering freebies such as wireless Internet service, free pajamas, live baseball broadcasts and other amenities. Simultaneously, the step by the airlines is also towards improving customer loyalty.

Alaska Airlines recently started offering free-of-cost wireless Internet service to its First Class and Business Class customers during August and September and provided them with iPods and Smartphones.

However, on the other hand American Airlines has started to offer pajamas, quilted bed toppers, slippers, pillows, duvets and travel kits to its First Class customers on flights to London from US on its Boeing 777 aircraft. The airline is also going to provide some of these facilities to Business Class customers on certain other flights to London. The airline also said that it is planning to extend the offerings to its First Class and Business Class customers on other international flights starting from October 1, 2011.
