Alaska Airlines ending Long Beach-Portland flights this summer

Alaska Airlines has decided to revamp its services and bring more vigor to its operational activities. The airline’s decision is good news for some, while it is bad for others. The passengers traveling between Long Beach and Portland will be more worrisome now as the airline has decided to stop the sale of its plane tickets for travel during summer this year.

The airline in a statement said that it will stop its flights on Portland-Long Beach route from August 23, 2014 as part of its revamp strategy. The airline had been operating a daily flight between the two cities.

Alaska Airlines has however decided to bring cheers to the travelers as it will be increasing its frequency on Seattle route. With the launch of additional flight to Seattle from Long Beach, the passengers will now be offered a total of three flights for travel between the two destinations.

The airline will not stop at these only. Announcing details about its overhaul exercise, a spokesperson of Alaska Airlines said that it will be dropping flights between San Jose and Los Angeles effective from April 4, 2014. The flight operations between Atlanta and Portland will also be stopped. This will be effective from September 1, 2014.

Earlier, Alaska Airlines had announced that summer seasonal flights between Denver and Anchorage would also be dropped this year. The announcement by the airline has come at a time when the Long Beach Airport is striving hard and looking to stabilize its passenger traffic. The airline put out the data saying that nearly 400,200 passengers in the first two months of 2014 traveled through the airport. Expressing its displeasure, the airline said that the passenger traffic during the two months declined 8.2 percent as compared to the same period in 2013.

Long Beach Airport officials have however tried to allay the worries of the travelers and downplayed the move by Alaska Airlines to drop its flights services from here. The officials said that JetBlue Airways would be operating 4 flights to Portland every day as usual.
