Alaska Airlines likely to launch seasonal Seattle-Cancun flights

Alaska Airlines is planning to launch new seasonal nonstop flights between Seattle and Cancun. The airline has already applied and seeking approval from Mexican aviation regulator Mexico Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil and the U.S. Department of Transportation. Upon approval the airline will start operating daily flights to Cancun starting from November 6.

The airline will announce flight schedule and introductory low fares after its application is approved. The airline will be deploying a Boeing 737 aircraft to operate flights on the route.

Alaska Airlines is also scheduled to start flights from Seattle to various destinations as well this year. These include New Orleans (starting from June 12), Tampa (from June 20), Baltimore (from September 2), Detroit (from September 4) and Albuquerque (from September 18). By launching the new flights, the airline will be offering 279 nonstop flights from Seattle to 79 destinations.

Joe Sprague, Alaska Airlines’ Vice President – Marketing, said that the airline has established itself as a prominent carrier in Seattle and striving to provide nonstop services to popular leisure destinations like Cancun. With services to Cancun becoming operational, the airline will be providing best amenities and low fares to its customers.

Alaska Airlines started serving Mexico in 1988 and has since been operating more nonstop flights between Mexico and the West Coast than any other U.S. carrier. The airline is currently carrying 1.5 million passengers on average every year. The airline is presently providing flights services to Mexican beach destinations like Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Manzanillo, Los Cabos, Loreto and Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo. Other Mexican cities being served by the airline include Mexico City and Guadalajara.
