Allegiant Air begins charging for carry-on bags in overhead bins

The air tickets will now become somewhat costlier when flying Allegiant Air air tickets have now become somewhat costlier. The airline recently brought out a list of carry-on bags fee to be charged by passengers flying on select routes.

By starting to charge for carry-on bags, Allegiant Air has now joined fellow deep discounter Spirit Airlines in taking such a step.

The airline in a statement said that most passengers flying out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in east Mesa will now be required to pay $13 or $15 each way to stow a carry-on in the overhead bin if they pay in advance.

However, passengers taking flights to Las Vegas will be required to pay $10 for a carry-on bag if they prepay. 

Earlier, Allegiant Air had indicated that the passengers who paid in advance would be required to pay between $10 and $30 each way, depending on the route. Those paying at airport check-in will have to pay a flat $35 fee for carry-on bags.

The airline stated that the new fee will be applicable to bags and other items stored in the overhead bin.

The airline will continue to allow passengers take one small carry-on bag along with them for free, as long as it fits under the seat in front of them.
