Allegiant Air launching new Kansas City-Florida routes from Nov

Leading Las Vegas-based low-cost carrier Allegiant Air recently announced it will be launching three new routes to Florida from Kansas City from November 2015.

Media reports said that Allegiant Air would start operating nonstop flights to Orlando, St. Petersburg and Fort Myers/Tampa areas effective from November 12 onwards. The flights from Kansas City International Airport (MCI) to the three destinations will be operated twice weekly.

The airline is offering discounted one-way fares to celebrate its debut in Kansas City. The fares will be valid for travel by February 16, 2016. According to the reports, Allegiant Air will start operating nonstop flights from Kansas City International Airport to St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport effective from November 12, while the flights to Punta Gorda Airport and Orlando Sanford International Airport would begin from November 13 this year.

Allegiant Air will be the first new carrier at Kansas City International Airport since Spirit Airlines started its flight operations in 2014. Alaska Airlines was the first to enter Kansas City market in 2012. Allegiant Air will also become the third new airline to begin operations from here.

Travel experts said that Allegiant Air is trying to aggressively compete with Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines, which are presently offering nonstop flights to Orlando. Southwest Airlines is also currently providing nonstop flights services to Tampa and Fort Myers as well. Allegiant Air has further indicated that it will continue flying into the smaller, alternate airports in these growing markets.

Mark VanLoh, Director of Aviation for the Kansas City Aviation Department, said, “The addition of a new low-cost carrier like Allegiant Air is indeed a good news for the people of Kansas City and its neighbourhoods. There will be increasing competition now and the travellers from Kansas City can look forward to cheap airfares.”
